The Australian Capital Territory Department of Territory and Municipal Services (TAMS) (previously the Department of Urban Services) is implementing an ambitious program to upgrade and fully integrate a range of legacy asset management systems into a single integrated asset management system (IAMS). This paper outlines the IAMS objectives, and how these are being achieved. It also reports on some of the challenges of introducing a program of this scope and presents the solutions in the form of a series of lessons learned. To complicate the implementation, the Department of Urban Services transformed itself from an organisational perspective in two stages during the early implementation period and with its incorporation into the new Department of Territory and Municipal Services (TAMS) it is now facing a third change. These periods of significant change require a rethink of the business processes to ensure that the concept of full integration across business areas and asset views are not lost.
