Abstract

ADAC, the largest German consumer protection organisation, tests new telematic devices and services to meet the rising information requirements of motorists. In 1998/1999 the following devices and services were tested: navigation systems (devices with an external display, navigation radios, systems for mobile deployment), traffic information services (radio, mobile radio) and hands-free equipment. Despite of an overall positive assessment by the motorists the test drives also showed that various improvements are urgently required to make the systems safer, more reliable and interesting for motorists.
