Abstract

The capacity of heavily- loaded road networks is determined by the capacity of their critical intersections, i.e.those with heavy traffic load on all approaches. In order to keep the level of service as high as possible, it is necessary to introduce at these intersections an optimal, traffic- actuated distribution of green time with a measuring technique using other than conventional measurable variables used up till now.
