Abstract

Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) are expected to increase road safety, road capacity and attenuate environmental load in traffic. However, they may also have some adverse effects. In the ADVISORS project (GRD1-2000-10047, funded by DGTREN of the European Commission), the demand pull from society is considered to be essential for policy makers, but on the other hand, the technology push from the market is a reality we have to deal with. In the paper the approach for analyzing these two forces is presented, and some selected results are shown. Apparently, the industry is currently not focusing on Advanced Driver Assistance Systems, which are demanded for by powerful parties in the society.
