Abstract

Road safety is a major problem nowadays due to its vast socioeconomic impacts. Enforcement and rehabilitation measures have been applied widely in many countries in order to achieve improved driver behaviour. Among the administrative support systems of the competent authorities as far as road safety is concerned, the penalty point system plays an important role in behavioural changes. Greece is among those countries facing severe road safety problems and for this reason a major effort has been made towards the improvement of safety levels in the country. Within the framework of this paper the Greek point system is presented and discussed in relation to the country's road accident data. For the covering abstract see ITRD E128680.
