Abstract

The recently published Dutch National Traffic and Transport Plan (NTTP) creates an important place for the application of advanced technology in traffic on main roads and the promotion of general improvement in traffic safety. Specific activities, including the performance of pilots with Advanced Driver Assistance (ADA) Systems and a research and activity agenda for Automated Vehicle Guidance are mentioned. As a preparation for the agenda, feasibility analyses for pilots in the Netherlands, along with quick scans for acceptance, road safety and legal issues of Advanced Driver Assistance Systems have been performed in 2000. In this paper, the proposed pilot activities are outlined.
