Advanced interactive terminals developed within the Eurobus-Popins project : methodology and results of evaluation.

Abstract

This paper presents some of the findings of the EuroBus-Popins Project, concerning the design and the evaluation of advanced and "standardised" computer aids for public transport passenger information in Europe. These aids are either remote and interactive street terminals destined for end-users or desktop workstations for telephone enquiry offices. The Popins prototypes developed in Madrid, Marseille, and Thessaloniki address a set of requirements defined in common, particularly the functional specifications, the communication architecture (server-terminal) or the man-machine interface layer. These terminals tend to use an EC-compatible database (Transmodel data model), and a geographical information system (GIS) on the city network. A sound evaluation process has been defined by the EuroBus partners in order to assess the user and operator acceptance, the technical performances, and the possible impact of these tools. (A)
