Abstract

JIT (just in time) manufacturing in the automotive sector, QR (quick response) supply to retail outlets and ECR (efficient consumer response) in the grocery industry are three innovative examples of the trend towards Demand Driven Freight Transport Systems (DDFTS). For a company to be capable of working within such an environment, timely and efficient information provision and processing is required, to drive all related functions within the Supply Chain (i.e. order processing, inventory management, freight transport resource management). As a result, the development and integration of information systems between supply chain actors becomes a major prerequisite. Working within this context, ARTEMIS aims to develop an architecture and interfaces to facilitate integrated supply chain management systems, and to validate these, through pilot demonstrations at three test sites in Europe.
