Abstract

This book introduces the concept of ATT (Advanced Transport Telematics), IVHS (Intelligent Vehicle Highway Systems) and RTI (Road Transport Informatics). Chapters are also provided on the use of ATT for: (1) traffic control; (2) dynamic route guidance; and (3) automatic toll collection. Separate chapters are provided which give greater detail about DRIVE programmes, PROMETHEUS (Program for a European Traffic with Highest Efficiency and Unprecedented Safety), ADVANCE (Advanced Driver and Vehicle Advisory Navigation Concept), RACS (Road-Automobile Communication System) and VICS (Vehicle Information Communication System), and on-board equipment. Details about ATT initiatives in specific regions such as Michigan, or in certain countries such as Japan and the USA are also provided. For abstracts of individual chapters see C 4570-4584.
