Abstract

This conference presents work undertaken by the DRIVE programme which studies the use of advanced telematics in road transport. It contains papers on the following topics: a) road transport informatics (RTI) infrastructure and systems architecture; b) route guidance and variable message signs; c) short range communication systems; d) driver support systems; e) the evaluation and implementation of RTI systems, with descriptions of field trials of individual systems such as the DACAR infrared communication systems; f) strategic issues; g) urban traffic management and control; h) databases, dataflows and expert systems; i) co-operative driving systems; j) transport modelling and traffic simulation; k) freight operation and public transport management; l) weather and pollution monitoring; m) performance standards; n) tunnel management and communications in tunnels; o) processor and terminal development; and p) road user behaviour.
