Abstract

The traffic control system operated by Tokyo's Metropolitan Expressway Public Corporation supports efficient operation of the expressway network serving Tokyo and its adjacent prefectures by ensuring smooth traffic management, securing a reasonable traffic flow and promoting road-user safety and comfort. The traffic control system provides 24 hour non-stop operation and supplies real-time information to achieve its role of serving society. This paper considers methods for constructing and operating the advanced traffic control system to secure a high level of system reliability. (A*)
