Abstract

A significant and growing portion of the world's population lives in metropolitan areas. The success of the city has brought with it a series of needs, issues, problems, and objectives that today's transport community must address to be successful. Advanced technologies hold the promise of moreintelligent cities, able to adapt to the needs of city dwellers. From a transport perspective, these technologies can significantly enhance servicedelivery with minimum side effects, if applied in a thoughtful coherent manner. This paper explains some key needs, issues, problems, and objectives that Advanced Metropolitan Transport Management (AMTM) might help to address. For the covering abstract see E134653.
