Abstract

It is possible to argue that there is no safety effect proven from the Advanced Transport Telematics (ATT) functions and that new technology will only increase traffic flow in the society. This should then lead to a disclaiming of ATT and by that hinder all positive development of the ATT functions. One could, however, argue that at present the safety effects seem to be not that impressive but once some "minor" technical details are solved, it will be able to eliminate the safety problems in traffic. It is vital to realize that ATT functions as well as other new features introduced in the traffic environment will affect driver behaviour in many ways, difficult to forecast. A preparedness for these problems will at least avoid the big mistakes and disappointments.
