Abstract

The absorbing energy bumper is described. The idea is to increase the car length while driving in a way that when a collision occurs, the bumper has an extra travel length which enables absorbing of energy and hence reducing the impact to the car. A patent is pending. The author theorises that a bumper could be either attached to the car (in parking) or extended forward (in driving) through a simple mechanism such as cable and a motor, operated by the driver. The bumper could be mounted in front of the car and on the rear end (to reduce whiplash injury damage) as well. For the covering abstract see ITRD E116488.
