Abstract

Coast down experiments can be utilized by proper processing of time vs. speed data for obtaining individual information on both aerodynamic drag and rolling resistance. The differential equation describing the decrease in kinetic energy of vehicle can be integrated in closed form if the rolling resistance remains reasonably constant over the velocity range covered in the coast down test.
