Abstract

Based on the physiological experiments, minimum values of luminances for reading written informations on traffic signs and for recognition of traffic signs are derived. Comparing these luminances with those reached in the normal street situation during night-time, the necessity for defining minimum requirements for the coefficient of retroreflection of retroreflective materials in use is shown.
