Abstract

Renault, PSA, Cofiroute and CS Route are developing in close cooperation an in-vehicle information system on highways, using beacons and read-write transponders at 5.8 Ghz designed for ETC. The system will be implemented on a section of the A10 highway (100 km between Paris and Orleans). The proposed services intend to improve safety (emergency information on weather and traffic conditions) and to enhance drivers' convenience (information on travel time and available services on the highway). The system will furthermore assist the highway operator for road traffic monitoring and security management.
