Abstract

This issue of Current Topics includes over 75 abstracts of reports, conference papers, books and journal articles which focus on the design and testing of air bags in frontal, side and bumper collisions, deployment mechanisms, sensor systems and inflator systems. Other subjects include the effectiveness of airbags in fatality reduction, air bag safety especially for children, knee airbags, curtain airbags, motorcycle airbags and airbags designed to protect pedestrians. These items have been selected from the material added to the Transport Research Laboratory's Library Database between 2003 and 2005. Much of the relevant English language published literature from the UK, USA, Australia and Europe is included; some of the non-UK literature is included courtesy of the OECD International Transport Research Documentation (ITRD) database. Abstracts for the years 1996-1998 can be found in a previous issue of this title: Current Topics in Transport 73.2 (C 15669 S). Current Topics in Transport CT 73.1 (see C 10575 S), covers abstracts of articles added to the database from 1993-1996.
