This issue of Current Topics in Transport includes over 80 abstracts of some of the published literature (reports, conference papers, books and journal articles) on recent developments in air bag technology and effectiveness. The abstracts cover the design and testing of air bags in frontal, side and bumper collisions, deployment mechanisms, sensor systems and inflator systems. Other subjects include the effectiveness of air bag use in fatality reduction, and air bag safety; some abstracts cover injuries caused by air bags. The items have been selected from the material added to the Transport Research Laboratory's Library Database between 1993 and 1996. Much of the relevant English language published literature from the UK, USA, Australia and Europe is included; some of the non-UK literature is included courtesy of the OECD International Road Research Documentation (IRRD) database. The previous edition of this title (Current Topics in Transport CT 73) included abstracts added to the database between 1988 and 1993.
