Abstract

Air conditioning for large double deck buses carrying up to one hundred and forty passengers presents a unique design challenge. Following a description of the main components of an air conditioning system this paper presents a review of fifteen years of product development, the various concepts adopted, design problems encountered and service experience in diverse environmental conditions. An overview of the system costs and benefits is presented followed by a discussion of environmental issues associated with the discharge of refrigerant gases. (A)
