Abstract

In 1965 the Alberta Department of Highways initiated a "Rural Roads Study" to develop a network of secondary roads of region and local significance. Local participation was emphasized throughout, commencing with the local jurisdictions playing a large role in determining study area boundaries. Nineteen stud areas evolved covering the entire populated area of the province.
