Abstract

A literature survey was carried out on various aspects of alcohol and road accidents. The magnitude of the problem is indicated by the fact that alcohol is a significant factor in accident causation. Single vehicle accidents show some relationship with alcohol consumption. Pedestrian accidents involving intoxicated Non-Europeans constitute a serious problem in South-Africa. South African legal b. a. c. of 0. 15% is higher than in most other countries.
