Abstract

Drunken driving is a problem of large proportions against which no efficient measures have yet been taken. This is an inescapable conclusion from data produced by swov and others. These data are presented here. The problem is truly huge and it is shocking because of the inertia to actually change the situation. In order to overcome this, it will be necessary to do more than the actions and campaigns set up in the past. A systematic approach to drunken driving is presented, especially aimed at those people who can contribute to a new policy. A cost-benefit-analysis is given and it is concluded that renewed police surveillance on a large scale will pay for itself twice over. Preventing irremediable suffering is just as important as preventing material damage. The aim of the brochure is to stimulate discussion.
