Abstract

Estimates of alcohol involvement in fatal traffic crashes that occurred during 1987 are presented. The overall trend in fatal crashes involving an intoxicated participant alcohol has declined from 46.1% in 1982 to 40% in 1987. Much of this reduction is due to a drop in the estimation proportion of fatal crashes involving intoxicated drivers aged 16 to 20. Reductions have also occurred for drivers over 44 years and female drivers.
