Abstract

Does an impairment of the elderly driver's perceptual, cognitive or psychomotor abilities really affect their driving performance ? If so, in which ways ? As a basis in this paper, some simplified models of the driver and the driver's tasks are used. The tasks are, e.g. route planning, navigation, adaptation of speed and position to the road environment, interplay with other road users' behaviour, attendance to other tasks (like conversation, handling of a radio, and so on). These tasks are discussed in relation to some of the features of perceptual, cognitive and psychomotor impairment.
