Abstract

Attention is focused on identification of new platoons and characterizing gap propagations within a platoon. The probability of synchronizing a ramp vehicle with an ordered gap of a platoon is formulated in terms of the platoon freeway vehicles speeds and arrival times at a shoulder lane detector and is maximized to generate the optimal release time of the ramp vehicle.
