Abstract

This report examines what is known about how ATVs are used and the advantages of their use and the nature, extent, and costs of ATV fatalities and injuries. To identify uses and advantages, studies on the uses of these vehicles and advantages derived from them were reviewed and user groups and industry officials were interviewed. To research the incidence of fatalities and injuries, ATV fatality and injury data compiled by Commission staff for 1999 through 2008 were reviewed and safety stakeholders were interviewed about the causes of ATV fatalities and injuries.
