Abstract
High investment and maintenance costs, visual pollution, the necessity of regular money collection and inflexibility of tariffs are disadvantages of the conventional parking meter. A study was carried out to find alternatives. Three out of eleven systems that were studied seem to offer best overall effects; the automatic machine with or without tickets and the parking meter operated by counters.
