Abstract

On the basis of functional classification and geometric features, the paper describes the types of highway segments most likely to experience roadside obstacle crashes. It describes a priority scheme for selecting and planning roadside safety projects. This scheme provides a means of utilizing scarce highway safety resources along segments of highways most in need of safety modification.
