Abstract

The use of diesel buses induces a number of social costs (e.g. financial shortages, space occupied by buses at stops and on the roads, traffic congestions, air pollution), which are borne by the non-users. The different possibilities of the use of electric power for buses, such as battery power and trolleybuses are reviewed. Recent technological improvements favours the use of electric batteries. Different construction details of electric buses are described.
