Abstract

On December 2, 1990 the Amstelveen line came into operation. This double line consists of a light rail (line 51) and a tramline (line 5) between Amstelveen/Buitenveldert and the centre of Amsterdam. In a before and after study, the effects of the changes in the public transport system on travel behaviour of the inhabitants of Amstelveen and Buitenveldert have been traced. Although the public transport use increased after the introduction of the rail lines, the mobility by car use remained unchanged. However, a decrease of the bicycle use was found. (A)
