Abstract

From the localized concentration of accidents with dynamic causes on single- carriageway rural roads, it can be concluded that incorrect assumptions were originally made about the characteristics of the road section involved. On 58 sections under study, spot- speeds and longitudinal speed profiles were recorded, and the accident analysis date were compared with data about road characteristics. The most frequent cause of accidents is the presence, within a road section with a high proportion of bends, of a curve which has a greater directional change and /or somewhat smaller radius of curvature.
