Abstract

Analysis of regional connections and routes; Application of a method for accomplishing a sustainably safe road network. In the interaction between use and structure of the road network the road users' route choice plays an important role: the structure will be partly responsible for the route choice while the sum total of all route choices can be reason for adapting the structure. This interaction has been investigated in the area enclosed between the Dutch towns of Noordwijk, Katwijk, Leiden and The Hague Haag (NKLG). First the structure of the NKLG road network has been investigated using the so-called 'adapted cluster-based method’. The existing connections between the clusters in the NKLG area have been compared with the system of preferable connections and the preferable categorizations which follow from this residential cluster-method. In the broader framework of this project, the routes in an area are judged using safety indicators to determine whether such a system of categorized connections is indeed sufficiently safe. The present report makes a start by comparing a number of different routes with the same origin and the same destination.
