Abstract

An accident analysis has been made to determine attention areas for the municpal traffic safety policy in amsterdam. In this analysis are considered (1) the development of hazards during 1975-1979, (2) the global magnitude of hazards during 1975-1979 in relationship with a number of characteristics of accidents, and (3) a more detailed description with the aid of cross tables and conflict tables. The number of accidents increased during the period considered, but the number of victims did not increase. Between the different traffic categories there were some changes: less moped riders and pedestrians and more cyclists among the victims; 30% of the severely injured were road users in the age group 16-25; 20% of the victims were in the evening peak hours from 16.00-18.00 hours pm.
