Abstract

In this research, an exact mathematical analysis is given of the operational characteristics of a signalized intersection in which the control strategy is to switch the lights when the favored queue empties. The vehicle arrivals are assumed to be generated by a binomial process, and the departure rates are assumed to be constant. The model simulates a possible mode of computer control of an intersection.
