Abstract

This article describes a vehicle location system in which a series of transmitters forms an "electronic fence" along the zone boundaries. As it passes through the electronic fence a suitable equipped vehicle receives and store the zonal location information signals. This information is sent by the vehicle to a central location via a separate radio channel after receiving an interrogation message. The implications of the communication performance to a vehicle locator system are then considered after which the system is described in more detail.
