Abstract

The Public Works Department of the Government of Maharashtra had assigned to the Central Road Research Institute the work of comprehensive studies for the planning and development of road system for the Bombay Metropolitan Region, keeping the horizon year as 2001 . The paper reports analyses of the data collected in regard to demographic and socio-economic factors on the one hand and travel factors on the other. The growth of mass transport demand over the years has also been analysed.
