This paper contains the results of 50% offset frontal collision tests. These tests were conducted in order to analyze the impact situation of ankle/foot regions during car-to-car crashes with both 50 km/h running speeds. High-speed films of the footwell regions were taken. The following aspects were measured: impact forces of the Hybrid III lower legs, and three-axis accelerations of the toe-board, floor and brake pedal. In the same collision configuration, the tests were conducted under four different test conditions of driver seating situations: (1) with seatbelts and stepping on the brake pedal; (2) with seatbelts and stepping on the accelerator pedal; (3) without seatbelts and stepping on the brake pedal; and (4) without seatbelts and stepping on the accelerator pedal. The test results indicated that it would be necessary to pay attention to: (i) the transverse and vertical motions of the occupant and the various sections of the vehicle; and (ii) to the foot positions in relation to the foot pedals and floor.
