Abstract

Within the framework of the governmental policy with regard to the optimization of the use of the motorway network (The Second National Transport Structure Plan), the Regional Directorate of Public Works in Noord-Holland studied the possibilities of achieving a system of coordinated ramp-metering installations on the A10-West (Motorway interchange 'De Nieuwe Meer' - Motorway interchange 'Coenplein'). A SATURN-study was undertaken to investigate the effects of ramp-metering on network level. This study was done by AGV Adviesgroep voor verkeer en vervoer bv (Consultants for traffic and transport). Apart from the SATURN-study, a FLEXSYT-study was conducted to determine the effects of ramp-metering on local level. The subsection Traffic Networks on the Transportation and Traffic Research Division (Dienst Verkeerskunde, afdeling Verkeersnetwerken), was asked to do a FLEXSYT-study for two junctions with the A10-West : the S102 (Nieuwe Havens) and the S105 (Geuzenveld). This report contains the results of the FLEXSYT-study. Chapter 2 describes the problem. Chapter 3 describes the program applied and the alternatives analyzed. Chapter 4 contains the results and Chapter 5 the conclusions. (Author/publisher)
