Abstract

The noise control is an important problem for automotive engineering. In order to reduce the noise radiated from an automobile, locating its main noise sources must be carried out as the first step. The development of sound intensity measurement provides an efficient method to identify noise sources. If sufficient measurement points are distibuted over the whole surface, the main noise sources can then be easily located. Another advantage of sound intensity method is less restriction on the acoustical environment. So the sound intensity measurement of a vehicle can be carried on in any site instead of a special acoustical chamber. A sound intensity measurement system was developed and by using this system, developed and by using this system, the main noise sources in vehicles were located and reduced their noise level. (A)
