Abstract

This report examines existing theories of structural behaviour of rigid pavements and analyses data from the AASHO Road Test as they apply to the observed behavior of the pavements. The analysis indicates that existing mechanistic theories are generally adequate for use in the design of rigid highway pavements, and that the very large number of load applications to which pavements are now being subjected has a significant influence on rigid pavement performance.
