Abstract

The purpose of this research is to model transit operations on a route-by-route basis. In particular, explicit relationships between ridership, revenue, fare and frequency are sought. Functional forms for two models- demand and cost- are assumed. With these relationships, the basic tradeoffs in transit system operations can be examined and conclusions drawn for improving the operation or regulation of the system.
