Abstract

A study was undertaken to determine the extent of the utility pole accident problem in urban/suburban areas and to identify factors which affect the probability of their occurrence and their severity so that potential countermeasures to the problem could be evaluated. Possible countermeasures to the utility accident problem are evaluated on a cost-effective basis. Data suggest that one of the most cost-effective solutions to mitigating severity is restraint use.
