Abstract

Visual search activity was recorded in 13 skilled and 13 unskilled pilots while flying a helicopter during a cross country flight of 50 minutes duration. Results demonstrate that skilled pilots engage in significantly more visual search activity in the horizontal plane than is true of novice pilots. Both skilled and unskilled pilots demonstrate changes in visual search activity as a function of time-on-task.
