Abstract

The purpose of this publication is to provide basic data on transport and related trends in most European countries, Canada, and the United States. Areas covered include the rail, road and inland waterway sectors, container transport, goods loaded and unloaded at sea ports, transport by oil pipelines, and international goods transport by various modes of transport and commodity group. The data provided refer to length of networks, the number, capacity and power of vehicles, and the levels (by weight) of both international and internal transport. General statistics on population, gross domestic product, the relative importance of the principal modes of both inland and international freight and passenger transport, and energy consumption by transport mode are also provided. The data provided is more complete for some countries than it is for others.
