Abstract

A random test has been made in 3000 Swedish households in 1964 regarding road accidents, their recording with police and/or insurance companies, and their costs. Accidents recorded with police and/or insurance are only about half of the total number of accidents of the different types. The number of accidents with personal damage was significantly higher than according to the official statistics. An investigation was also made on the effect of age group, and road mileage on accident rates.
