Abstract

The reference manual details the design and development of anti-lock braking systems (ABS) technology for passenger cars. A short description is given of the major system components and also an explanation of the principles upon which most systems are based. Papers are presented within the following sections: (1) background - which describes basic systems configuration; (2) regulation and testing - which details testing facilities and braking performance requirements; (3) past ABS technology - which describes first production adaptive anti-skid braking systems; (4) current ABS - which gives details of ABS systems now in production; and, (5) advanced technology - which discusses algorithms for ABS, and advanced traction control technology.
