Abstract

In the Electronic Toll Collection (ETC) gate, it is a key technology to identify whether a vehicle is an ETC vehicle or not. The authors propose a vehicle identification system which has a directional finder. A breadboard system has been developed and evaluated in the field. Regarding the directional finder, evaluation tests on multipath and shadowing were performed. It became clear that these factors had little influence on the vehicle identification system. Consequently, this system has been shown to be well suited for practical use.
