Abstract

This paper describes how standard rollover crash tests with 50% Hybrid III dummy were simulated with the software MADYMO. Sensor signals of the crash tests were used in order to prescribe the vehicle kinematics in the numerical simulation. The MADYMO human model was applied to those simulations and the human mode kinematics were analyzed. The kinematics of a human occupant model in a rollover crash will be presented and the differences between motion of a dummy and a human model will be analyzed in this paper. On the basis of various questions concerning the application and validation of human models in vehicle rollover will also be discussed. The focus of future investigations aiming at the improvement of occupant model performance in rollover simulations will also be outlined.
