Abstract

An outline of the principles and objectives of the PPBS (a system of variable budgeting applied to public expenditure with both economic and social constraints, comprised into clear objectives and with an evaluation procedure). Its application in the field of transport economics is discussed and some examples (e.g. road safety, urban renovation) are presented.
